What does it mean to write in a globalized, multiliterate world?
Participants in this full day workshop will consider this question as they explore writing in multiple genres, via multiple modes, and from multiple perspectives. Part of the day will be dedicated to a “ writing around the world” marathon at the World Showcase at Epcot Center.
Following the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a December webinar that focuses on turning the immediate writing from the marathon into polished pieces that will be published collectively online in January.
Teachers and students or colleagues who attend the workshop together will be able to learn and write as inquiry partners. Individuals who attend without a partner will find group members organically. All participants need to purchase an entrance ticket to Epcot in addition to the colloquium fee. Reduced rate tickets are available.

Jonathan Bush and Kristen Turner
Writing the World Introduction
Capture and critique – the purpose of our inquiry today is to consider critically what it means to write in a globalized, multiliterate world. Jonathan and Kristen will introduce the vision of the workshop and ask participants to jot notes throughout the morning that will help them to form an inquiry question for the writing marathon experience. They will share the hope that participants will gain insight into writing in multiple genres, multiple modes, and from multiple perspectives or cultures.
How can we use multimedia to capture our experiences as writers, both as reflections on what we are doing at the moment as well as to gather assets for multimedia compositions? What are the critical, technical, and rhetorical skills that we must possess as multimedia, multigenre writers? In this session, Troy will show participants how to stream audio and image from mobile phones to Flickr. He will discuss possible compositions, possibly individual and possibly collaborative, that participants can create using captured images and audio. He will explain posting to the wiki and how to access follow-up webinar.
